Jeanette Scott, Visit Florida Shopping Insider, is your guide to Sunshine State shopping and fashion. Orlando on the Cheap is excited to share this guest post by Jeanette.
We’ve all heard of Goodwill, but how much do you really know about the organization? I recently had the opportunity to tour Goodwill’s Central Florida headquarters in Orlando and it turns out there was a lot I didn’t!
I usually think of Goodwill as an amazing place to shop for good deals. You can find designer items for pennies (I picked up a Ralph Lauren blazer for $8), and it’s perfect in a pinch (like vacationing in Florida and dealing with a sudden weather change!). It’s also a great place to drop off your unwanted clothing and home items. But on this trip I was also reminded of “the cause” – all of the free services that they provide to the community such as job placement, vocational services and employment training. By shopping and donating, you are making all of these services possible! Some neat Florida facts I learned:
- Goodwill operates 178 retail stores in Florida.
- Last year, Goodwill placed more than 46,000 jobs and provided services to 180,000 people in Florida.
- Last year, Goodwill employed more than 7,000 people in Florida.
Budget shopping that’s for a great cause? It really doesn’t get much better than that! Visit the Goodwill website to find a location near you.
