The New Worlds Reading initiative helps children in grades K-5 build their literacy skills while fostering a love for books—all at no cost to eligible families.
To qualify for the program your student must be one of the following:
- a Florida VPK student who is not yet meeting age-appropriate standards according to FAST Star Early Literacy
- a K-5th grader in a Florida public or district-sponsored charter school who is not yet reading on grade level.
What is the New Worlds Reading Program?
The New Worlds Reading Program is a free book delivery service designed specifically for Florida students who may be struggling with reading proficiency. Created to bridge the literacy gap, the program provides high-quality, age-appropriate books directly to a child’s home.
How Does It Work?
Participation in the New Worlds Reading Program is simple:
Check Eligibility
Families can visit the program’s website to see if their child qualifies. Generally, the program is open to students enrolled in public or charter schools who have been identified as not reading at grade level.
After applying online, New Worlds Reading Initiative verifies student eligibility through education records before enrollment is confirmed and book deliveries begin
Receive Books
Each month during the school year, participating children will receive a new book delivered straight to their home, completely free of charge. The program offers books in English, Spanish, or Haitian Creole to reflect Florida’s diverse communities.
Read Together
Families are encouraged to explore the books together, creating shared reading experiences that boost comprehension, vocabulary, and a love for storytelling.
More Free Resources Available
The New Worlds Reading website is full of additional resources to help your child learn to love reading. You can find printable bookmarks, interactive reading guides, videos, and more here on their family resources page.
