Florida shoppers, rev up your wallets for a tax-free shopping spree. For a tax freedom event in July, eligible outdoor recreation items and entry to eligible venues and events are exempt from the usual Florida state sales tax. You’ll save at least 6 percent on qualifying purchases.
Florida Freedom Month sales tax holiday is July 1-31, 2024, offering a break from sales tax.
The tax holiday includes entry fees to an array of performances, recreation events and attractions. That includes tickets for sporting events, state parks, plays, fitness, fairs, festivals and other eligible entertainment.
For some items, such as tents, the price needs to be within a designated amount. For tents, taxes are waived for items with prices of $200 or lower. The regular state sales tax on $200 is usually $12. Some regions in Florida also waive local sales taxes during the event.
Examples of items & prices excluded from Florida state sales tax during the event include:
- $15 or less for sunscreen & insect repellent
- $30 or less for water bottles
- $25 or less for goggles
- $500 or less for kayaks
- $300 or less for paddleboards & surf boards
- $200 or less for tents
- $500 or less for bicycles
- $50 or less for sleeping bags
- eligible fairs, festivals, and other events
