Fresh strawberries are ripe for the picking December through April in Central Florida. You can get that Florida farming experience by filling your own basket of berries at pick-your-own-strawberry fields just a short drive from Orlando.
A local favorite you-pick farm is Oak Haven in Sorrento where you can spend hours picking berries, eating and playing. If your harvest is bigger than your fridge, clean the berries and freeze them to use later. After filling a basket, visit the country kitchen for home-style strawberry shortcake, milkshakes, strawberry wine and other snacks. To entertain the kids, there’s a zip line, hayride and playground.

If you can’t get enough of the tasty fruit, mark your calendar for the annual Plant City Strawberry Festival in March that celebrates the strawberry harvest of Eastern Hillsborough County. Each year, over 500,000 visitors enjoy the festival’s headline entertainment, youth livestock shows, exhibits of commerce and, of course, its strawberry shortcake.
